Public Event Offered On Adapting To Climate Change

Residents who want to learn more about climate change and its impact on the planet – and on the community we live in – are encouraged to attend a free public event.
An Adapting to Climate Change session is being held by the Township of Langley, the Government of Canada, and the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) on Wednesday, May 22. Those who attend can learn how our local climate is changing, express how climate change is affecting them, and discuss the issue with guest speakers John Aldag, Member of Parliament for Cloverdale-Langley City, and PCIC Climate Scientist Trevor Murdock.
The event will be held from 7:00 to 8:30pm in the Fraser River Presentation Theatre, on the 4th Floor of the Township of Langley Civic Facility, 20338 - 65 Avenue.
Township of Langley Mayor Jack Froese will provide opening remarks, and light refreshments will be served. Registration is requested.
The public event coincides with the development of the Township’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan. The Plan will use the latest climate science to look at all the municipality’s service areas and assess how to reduce our risks, now and in the future, and prepare the community for climate change impacts such as prolonged droughts, severe storms, and flooding.
“Change is coming, and it is up to all levels of government to ensure we adapt,” said Krista Robinson, Township of Langley Sustainability Programs Specialist. “We encourage anyone interested in climate change, how it will impact us, and the steps that can be taken, to join us for this free opportunity to learn more and have their say.”
