Road Safety Enforcement in the Township
The Township of Langley Bylaw Enforcement Department is taking action to improve safety on our local roads. On Wednesday, May 29, the Bylaw Enforcement Department partnered with the Delta Police Department Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit to conduct targeted safety inspections along 32 Avenue between 196 Street and 198 Street.
Township Bylaws and Delta Police inspected a total of 18 commercial vehicles and identified 31 violations, which included failing to have valid vehicle insurance, making false statements on log books, insecure loads, and non-functioning brake lights, parking brakes and trailer brakes.
Of the 18 vehicles inspected, 8 vehicles and trailers had significant defects that rendered them “out of service”, meaning the vehicles could no longer be operated on public roadways until the identified safety deficiencies were corrected.
This joint operation was part of the Lower Mainland Commercial Vehicle Enforcement group, which is composed of multiple agencies who collaborate to conduct enforcement and education in various jurisdictions to create safer roads across the region.
Improving road safety is a collective effort that encompasses many communities and various aspects of enforcement and education. Ensuring safe operation of commercial vehicles is crucial for the safety of all road users.
