Township adds extra layer of cybersecurity
To increase the security protecting users’ information and Township systems, multifactor authentication (MFA) is being implemented into the sign in process for MyTownship account services.
When signing in to a MyTownship account service, users will need to verify it is them accessing their account using a simple MFA process of inputting a verification code they will receive to their email address listed in their account. This is the same process that many banks and other online tools and services use.
When will MFA take effect?
December 10, 2025, at 10 pm. MyTownship will be unavailable from 10pm-10:30pm as the MFA change takes effect.
What action will users need to take?
When signing in, you will be asked to retrieve a verification code from your email address listed in your account to input during the sign in process.
Which account services does this apply to?
- Registering for recreation, and arts and culture programs
- Applying for business licences
- Applying for permits
- Applying for water meters
- Accessing account information/eBills (Taxes, Utilities, Business Licences)
- Accessing permit application updates/receiving approved drawings
- Requesting garbage carts
- Requesting inspections
Do I have to enter the verification code for every sign in?
Yes, a verification code will be sent to you each time you sign in to your account to ensure users’ information and Township systems are fully protected.
Why is the MFA using email?
Email is widely used by most individuals and businesses, especially for accessing Township accounts, and is also accessible by many people who may not have a mobile device for text-based MFA.
What if I do not get the verification code email?
If you do not get a verification code email, please take the following steps.
- Check that the email address you provided is correct.
- Check your email junk folder or spam filtering.
- Implement the setting in your email software to allow emails from msonlineservicesteam@microsoftonline.com (ensure you do not have “block sender” turned on).
