Focus on safety yields significant results
The Township’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Program is placing unsafe vehicles out of service due to serious safety violations. Road safety enforcement initiatives in the 23300 and 23800 blocks of Fraser Highway on September 18 resulted in numerous inspections, violations, and charges.
The enforcement initiative, in collaboration with BC Highway Patrol and various agencies, was a resounding success, emphasizing the Township’s commitment to road safety and compliance with commercial vehicle regulations.
Key statistics from the enforcement operations
- 23300 block of Fraser Highway
- 74 inspections of commercial vehicles, including trucks, vans, and trailers.
- 27 violation tickets issued under the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) and Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (MVAR).
- 35 vehicles placed out of service due to serious safety violations.
- 85 vehicle defects or violations identified.
- 6 vehicles towed from the roadway.
- 13 bylaw tickets issued, including one for an overweight vehicle.
- 23800 block of Fraser Highway (In collaboration with BC Highway Patrol)
- 5 charges for defective vehicles.
- 1 charge for a defective emergency brake.
- 2 charges for no insurance.
- 1 charge for failure to produce a driver’s license.
- 1 charge for loose lug nuts.
- 1 charge for incomplete trip inspection.
- 14 charges for not wearing a seatbelt.
- 6 charges for using an electronic device while driving.

The Township of Langley’s CVE Program is designed to enhance public safety by ensuring that all commercial vehicles operating within the Township adhere to stringent safety and operational standards. The high number of vehicles placed out of service and the numerous violations identified underscore the critical need for ongoing enforcement and education efforts.
