Township completes purchase of Redwoods Golf Course
The Township of Langley is pleased to announce the early completion on the purchase of the Redwoods Golf Course located in the Walnut Grove community of the Township. In 2005, the Township of Langley entered into an agreement with the owners of Redwoods, from which the Township and Doug Hawley of Redwoods Golf Course Ltd. have now agreed to an early completion, two years shy of the agreement’s original date.
“We owe a big thank you to the late Larry Hope and his family who have cared for, operated, and agreed so many years ago to sell Redwoods to the Township of Langley at an incredible discount to ensure that it is never developed, and preserved for future generations. It’s an amazing legacy,” said Mayor Eric Woodward. “We also owe a big thank you to former Mayor Kurt Alberts and Council for getting it done, with foresight years ahead of their time. In 2024 now, I think it’s great to get this done a few years ahead of schedule and join the community as it re-opens this year.”
Currently, the Redwoods Golf Course remains closed but following completion of the pipeline restoration work is expected to re-open in the late spring. The Township is looking forward to a celebration event marking the re-opening in 2024.
“I would like to recognize the Mayor and Council from 2005 for their vision of protecting green space for the future residents of Langley,” said Doug Hawley, Managing Director of Redwoods Golf Course. “Congratulations to Mayor Woodward and Council for completing the transition that began over 18 years ago. If Larry Hope was still with us, he would be proud of this moment.”
Larry Hope and his family entered into the agreement with the Township that included restrictions protecting the approximate 150-acre central portion of the site from development and ensuring it will remain a community golf course or green space in perpetuity.
