
Township Council approves enhancements to parks and recreation centre
Township of Langley Council approved $1.26 million that will provide enhanced amenities for community members at Willoughby Community Park, Aldergrove Athletic Park, and George Preston Recreation Centre.
Willoughby Community Park
Council approved $950,000 for site enhancements at Willoughby Community Park that will benefit numerous user groups who use the park including the Langley United Soccer Association, the park’s largest user group.
The enhancements include a synthetic turf warm-up area with fencing, seating and sidewalks, concession and building upgrades, and the road crossing and crosswalk at the entry point between the upper fieldhouse entry and the Southeast playing field.
Aldergrove Athletic Park
Council approved up to $130,000 for the design and construction of a new covered gathering area at Aldergrove Athletic Park allowing users to enjoy year-round activities. It will be located between the west parking lot and the batting cage and include a concrete pad and open sides.
This enhancement adds to the park’s many existing amenities which include baseball diamonds, basketball courts, a community garden, mountain bike course, pickle ball and tennis courts, playgrounds, skateboard park, soccer fields, sports box, and trails.
George Preston Recreation Centre
Council approved $180,000 to undertake enhancements at George Preston Recreation Centre on 42 Avenue in Brookswood to improve access and safety at the centre.
These enhancements will provide for safer vehicle movements to and from the site and will consist of driveway widening, distribution line and utility pole relocation, a new sidewalk, signage relocation, landscape restoration, drainage improvements, other minor site enhancements.
