
Township hosts Canadian Track and Field Championships for second consecutive year
The Township of Langley joins a prominent group of major Canadian cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, and Victoria in hosting the prestigious 2023 Bell Canadian Track and Field Championships. This is the second year in a row the championships have been hosted in the Township of Langley – this year from July 27-30, again at McLeod Athletic Park.
The Township of Langley has a strong track and field tradition in helping develop exceptional athletes including former world record holder and three-time Olympic high jumper Debbie Brill, 1500 metre gold medalist at the Pan American Games Leah Pells, and two members of Canada’s 2020 Olympic team, Django Lovett (high jump) and Georgia Ellenwood (heptathlon).

The Township is proud to be hosting this event for a second year in a row at McLeod Athletic Park, a testament to the world-class facilities that our municipality has to offer,” said Mayor Eric Woodward, Township of Langley.
Competition at this year’s event will be incredible with six-time Olympic medalist and Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalist Andre De Grasse (200 metres), two-time Olympic medalist Aaron Brown (4 x 100 relay), and prominent young Olympic athletes who debuted at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Georgia Ellenwood from Langley (heptathlon) and Camryn Rogers (hammer), and two Paralympic Athletes, Nate Riech, men’s 800m (gold medalist T38 1500m) at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships), and Renee Foessel, F38 discus (team captain and silver medalist, F38 discus) at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships, all headlining a field that is brimming with top-notch talent.
