Township of Langley Fire Department Encourages Wildfire Preparedness
The Township of Langley Fire Department is committed to wildfire preparedness as a FireSmartTM Community. The first step in preparation is learning how you and your community can get ready. Planning and preparation are key to being fire safe.
Simple steps to reduce wildfire risk
- Within 1.5 metres of a home, clear vegetation and combustible material down to mineral soil, then cover the area with non-combustible materials like gravel, brick, or concrete.
- Remove combustible items like firewood piles, construction materials, tools and decorative pieces.
- Remove all branches to a height of 2 metres from the ground.
- Regularly clean up accumulations of fallen branches, dry grass and needles to eliminate potential surface fuels.
The Township of Langley Fire Department offers FireSmart Home Ignition Zone Assessments to residents in applicable areas who are interested in learning how to improve the resiliency of their homes in the event of wildfire.
