Township of Langley receives $23,306,000 from Province’s new Growing Communities Fund

The Township of Langley has received a one-time commitment of $23,306,000 from the Provincial Government for community infrastructure and amenity projects as part of the $1-billion Growing Communities Fund recently announced by the Province.
The funding was personally announced by Megan Dykeman, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Langley East to Township of Langley Mayor Eric Woodward at a meeting held March 3, 2023.
The $1-billion Growing Communities Fund will fund new grants going to local governments in B.C. to help build community infrastructure and amenities to meet the demands of unprecedented population growth.
“This funding will really help Township of Langley residents and taxpayers as we continue putting our new plan in place to invest in new infrastructure and amenities needed due to our growing population - now at about 145,000, while serving our existing, new, and future residents,” said Township Mayor Eric Woodward. “Thank you to Premier David Eby and the Province of British Columbia for this significant investment within our community, which Council will direct to where it is needed, and we will now also be able to consider other projects sooner."
The Growing Communities Fund will provide a one-time total of $1-billion in grants to all B.C. municipalities which can be used to address their community’s unique infrastructure and amenities demands – such as recreation facilities, parks and water delivery improvements, in addition to other important community infrastructure.
“I am pleased to announce this funding to help the Township of Langley offer enhanced infrastructure and amenities for community members of Langley East and throughout my hometown,” noted MLA Megan Dykeman. “It is one more way this government is giving back to the people of B.C. to make their lives better.”
More information will be provided by the Township of Langley as Council considers which projects the funding will be put towards, such as new priorities for recreation, park, and water infrastructure improvements.
