Household Hazardous Waste Plus Event Sets New Vehicle Record
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the annual Household Hazardous Waste Plus Collection Event on September 20 and 21!
Township staff, contractors, and partners welcomed a new record of 1,197 vehicles, a 15% increase from last year.
Over the course of the weekend, 37 skids of paint, 12 skids of flammable liquids, and thousands of litres of motor oil were collected from Township residents.
Properly disposing of household hazardous waste is important for protecting the environment from pollution or contamination. When waste is not correctly disposed of, it can end up in places it shouldn’t such as oceans, rivers, and forests.
Missed the event?
If you couldn’t attend this weekend to drop off your household hazardous waste, local drop-off depots offer free, year-round disposal. Instead of waiting for the yearly collection event, check out the following resources to find drop-off options that are convenient to you.
- The Langley Recycling and Waste Centre (1070 – 272 Street) accepts used motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, paint, solvents, pesticides, and old gasoline (in an approved container) year-round.
- Contact the Recycling Council of BC through the Recyclepedia search, phone, text, chat, or email for local drop-off sites.
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs provide residents with free and convenient drop-off options for batteries, small appliances, tires, and more, all year long.
- Looking to dispose of motor oil, filters, antifreeze, or their containers? Visit interchangerecycling.com.
