Help Wanted to Make It Happen in Engineering

If you have ever considered a job in municipal engineering, now is the time to Make It Happen.

The Township of Langley’s Engineering Division has launched a Make It Happen campaign to encourage those seeking employment to become part of its team. A variety of full-time and seasonal positions will be available this fall and winter, and those who would like to do rewarding work while making a hands-on difference in the community are invited to apply.

Tyson Biddle, Operations Maintenance WorkerThe Township is a great place for anyone who wants to start their career,” said Tyson Biddle, an Operations Maintenance Worker with Public Works, Roads Operations. “I began working in a temporary position while I was in school and worked my way into a full-time position. Now I have a life-long career. Having lived my entire life in the Township, I feel proud working here. I get to give back to my community.”

To explore the types of positions available within Engineering and the duties associated with each, visit tol.ca/ENGjobs. Specific experience levels, training, and certifications required for each position are listed, so those who aspire to a job with the division can ensure they have the proper requirements.

Made up of 11 departments, Engineering maintains the Township’s water, sewer, and storm water utilities, looks after roads, municipal buildings, parks, trails, cemeteries, and fleet vehicles, cares for our urban forest, and oversees the collection of garbage, organics, and recycling. Traffic safety, environmental protection through education and public programs, and project management for major infrastructure are also part of Engineering’s responsibilities.

Jennifer Elderkin, Construction Manager

Township staff employed in the division note there are diverse opportunities and benefits that can be found in municipal engineering, and jobs that suit individual skill levels, interests, lifestyles, and goals.

“Being close to home allows me to spend more time with my family. I have more time in my day that isn't taken over by a commute,” said local resident and Township Construction Manager Jennifer Elderkin with Engineering and Construction Services. “On top of that, I get to use my talents to benefit my community.”

Job seekers are encouraged to regularly check the careers section of the Township’s website at tol.ca/careers to see current hirings.
